Medical Student Ultrasound Rotation Instructions & Expectations
Welcome to your EM Ultrasound Elective Rotation! On this page you will find a quick guide to your ultrasound rotation. Please refer to your email for rotation block specific information, schedules, and times.

First Day Instructions:

Meet with Victoria Reiter (Medical Student Coordinator) in her office for a brief orientation

Office is in Room 1036 - Dept of Emergency Medicine Residency

From the Main Hospital Front Entrance, take the Green Elevators to Floor 1. Make a left upon exiting the elevators and continue straight down the hall, and Room 1036 will be on your right

Please wear scrubs on your first day as you will be scanning in the ED after your orientation

If you have not completed our Institutional Medical Education Orientation this academic year, you will receive an email with instructions to complete this prior to your EM orientation
Requirements:

EM Sono Modules - complete all Core Modules by the end of your rotation

You will need to active your EM Sono account

You should have received an email with the subject "Create a password for your new account at EMsono". Follow this link to create your password & active your account.

Ultrasound Scanning Shifts & ED Clinical Shifts
-
Scanning Shifts are written in blue on your schedule. All scanning shifts are Downtown.

Additional scanning day may be added once the rotation begins

Clinical Shifts are scheduled & color coordinated by your last name on the schedule

We will provide scrubs

Clinical Shifts will be located at Downtown, Stow, Bath, or Green EDs

End of Shift Evaluations

Have one completed after each clinical shift

Click on your personal link in your rotation email at the end of each shift, then hand your phone to the attending or resident to complete

EM Conferences, Medical Student Lectures & Simulation Labs

Refer to your emailed schedule for dates

You will receive an email each week with specific instructions

Case Presentation
-
Deliver one interesting patient case presentation during resident conference

M4 Ultrasound Journal Club
-
Select and discuss an ultrasound-related journal article with ultrasound faculty and residents on their ultrasound block during that last week of your rotation
