Ultrasound Rotation Instructions & Expectations

Requirements:

  • You are expected to complete all of your requirements DURING YOUR ROTATION

OneNote Notebooks:

  • You are expected to check off your notebooks and do screenshots/pictures to demonstrate proof you have completed them

  • IF YOU DO NOT CHECK OFF YOUR NOTEBOOK, YOU WILL NOT PASS YOUR ROTATION!​​

    • This is our paper trail to show you have successfully complete the requirements​

EMSono:

  • ​www.emsono.com

    • Use the EM Sono Website to complete your PGY-specific modules

    • The module checklist is located both here & on your OneNote Notebook​

    • This allow us to see what you have​ completed and prevent hiccups

  • You should have received an e-mail getting access to this

Vacation:

  • Interns:

    • You should NOT have any planned vacation on your 2 week block

      • If you foresee any issues, please reach out to Dr. Stenberg ASAP​

  • 2nd/3rd Years:

    • ​Please provide your 7 day vaction peroid BEFORE your rotation, and let us know these dates ASAP

    • You are expected to be free for scanning/learning on any of the other days of your rotation (some of which, are added last minute), unless you discuss otherwise

ED Scanning Shifts:

  • Please refer to the AGMC EUS Calendar for scheduled ED scanning shifts with ultrasound faculty​​​

Scanning by Yourself:

  • At least 1 ED Scanning Shift by yourself per week

  • Additional scanning by yourself is encouraged

Handheld Ultrasound Machines:

  • It is now expected that you do some self scanning during your rotation with one of the following handheld probes. Please reach out at the being of your rotation to arrange obtaining one of the following probes.​

  • CCAG Handheld Log

    • When borrowing one of the handheld machines, you must fill out this log​ so we can track their use and locations.

  • GE VScan at Stow ED
    • Contact Dr. Stenberg to borrow this probe.

  • Clarius PAL HD3

    • Contact Dr. Watkins if you would like to borrow this probe.

  • Butterfly IQ+

    • Contact Dr. Makowski to borrow this probe.​

Medical Students:

  • If there are students on your block, you are expected to schedule at least one scanning shift with them on your own

OB Scanning:

  • We are currently in flux with the OB scanning experience for a multitude of reasons. For now, our SonoSim Machine & EM Sono will be your primary means of OB US education while we continue trying to acquire a TVUS simulator

PGY-3 Elective Requirement: "SonoSnack"

  • You are expected to complete and send Dr. Stenberg a "SonoSnack" by the end of the rotation

  • It can be in whatever format you desire, on whatever ultrasound-related topic you desire

  • The goal is to enhance your learning as well as the department​​​​
